For 125,000 Americans, this isn’t the case. It’s estimated that this number of pedestrians and cyclists are injured each year in the U.S. Hybrid or electric vehicles make up approximately 2,800 of these accidents according to Green Car Reports.

While Congress passed a law in 2010 to install pedestrian alert warning systems in all “quiet vehicles,” there is still debate over the type and noise level required.
