Satellites are great.
Satellite communication allows you to distribute large amounts of data quickly, it is accessible almost everywhere (unlike cell phone signals which require a tower), and is more stable in natural disasters which can wipe out other land-based communications.
It seems like a great solution for companies that want to create more connected vehicles.
