Toyota Tops Auto Industry for IIHS Safety Awards
For the third year in a row, Toyota has topped the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) annual list of safety awards. Twelve Toyota vehicles won IIHS awards in 2017, with nine receiving its highest award, the TOP SAFETY PICK+, the most of any manufacturer.
"At Toyota, our focus remains on the safety and peace of mind of our customers," said Dino Triantafyllos, Toyota's North American Chief Quality Officer. "We are proud that our commitment to developing safe and reliable vehicles resulted in such a strong showing in 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards".
According to IIHS, automakers were required to meet tougher criteria to be considered for the top 2017 awards, including headlight evaluations launched in 2016. Among this year's TOP SAFETY PICK+ recipients, the IIHS recognized the updated Toyota Corolla for improved small overlap crash protection and front crash prevention, as well as the Toyota Prius for its improved headlights.
To receive a TOP SAFETY PICK AWARD, vehicles were required to achieve good ratings in five crashworthiness tests, have an available front crash prevention system and have quality headlights. TOP SAFETY PICK+ award winners must also have a superior- or advanced-rated front crash prevention system with automatic braking capabilities.
2017 Toyota TOP SAFETY PICK+ winners: Toyota Prius (built after August 2016), Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry, Toyota Prius v, and Toyota RAV4.
2017 Toyota TOP SAFETY PICK winners: Toyota Yaris iA and Toyota Avalon.
Thompson Tree Decorating Contest
It's not the "most wonderful time of the year" at Thompson until our annual Thompson Tree Decorating Contest starts! Not only does it offer our employees the chance to work together outside of their everyday responsibilities, but it also lets us all spread the holiday spirit.
Toyota Service: "Service Superheroes"
Toyota Service took the concept of teamwork and ran with it when creating their colorful and clever "Service Superheroes" tree. Along with the Batman mask topping the tree, the Hulk fists punching through the sides, and the Thompson/Superman symbol displayed front and center, the team incorporated excerpts from comics and action figure ornaments into their design. Even better, though, is the fact that their tree celebrates the work that the service team does and the important role each member plays, recasting them as classic superheroes fighting for truth, justice, and regular vehicle maintenance.
Toyota Sales: "Hot Wheels"
One look at the totally original "Hot Wheels" tree created by the Toyota Sales team was enough to transport all of the judges back to their childhood Christmases. Team captain Nghia Trung showed off the sloping track that wrapped around the tree, complete with a car running down before landing right in the miniature service center (including rooftop parking) they had created at the bottom. In addition to the classic white lights and red, white, and glittery ornaments, the team also created Hot Wheels ornaments by attaching extra cars to pieces of the track! The holiday season can get a little stressful at times, and it was so refreshing to see such a fun and playful design come to life.
Call Center: "Tree with a Paw-pose"
This was the Call Center team's first year decorating their own tree, and they did a fantastic job reminding us all that our four-legged friends also deserve a warm and loving home this holiday season. Their "Tree with a Paw-pose" was covered in photos of animals available for adoption at the Bucks County SPCA and the Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue. Donations are also being collected for those who cannot bring an animal home themselves.
